The name of the tournament is Scratch Players Senior Amateur (SPSA).
The tournament is a individual, invitational tournament hosted by the Mayacama Golf Club.
The SPSA is conducted concurrently with the Scratch Players Mid-Amateur (SPMA).

The tournament is played as part of the new "USA International Amateur Tour" to include many of the top United States amateur tournaments in the world for at least 2009.

The SPMA dates are from Thursday, March 19 through Sunday, March 22, 2009.

The tournament format is 36 holes of stroke play for 12 match play spots with 4 first round byes.
First match round byes to the four lowest scores from stroke play. Ties for the 4th and/or 12th spots determined by sudden death playoff starting immediately upon the conclusion of stroke play. Match play seeding ties otherwise determined first by lowest second round score, then by Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking.

The conducting tournament sponsor is the Scratch Players Group. Sponsors also include the Mayacama Golf Club, Taylormade, Straightdown, Rodney Strong Vineyards & Bohemian Vineyard.
